Flowton in Flower 2019

Our tiny Suffolk village – apparently in the middle of nowhere but actually only a short distance from Ipswich – opened its gardens again for the first time in four years over the weekend of 22nd – 23rd June 2019.

As well as a range of very different gardens to visit, there were some exciting displays and other events to keep the whole family happy. Flowton’s delightful 13th century church also hosted a colourful Flower Festival on the theme of Nursery Rhymes which was extremely popular with the church providing some welcome coolness from the sun. The local history exhibition, also in the church, was a real draw for those who used to live in the area.

Proceeds go to help maintain St Mary’s Church, Flowton, and to FIND (Families in Need), our local Ipswich food and furniture bank which provides crucial support to many local families and individuals in need.

We were lucky with the weather on the weekend compared to previous years and welcomed over 500 paying visitors to our village, selling almost 350 lunches and cream teas as well as raising money with plant sales.

Local history exhibition
Our local historians exhibited photos, maps and more from Flowton and the local area in the church vestry.

Vintage tractor displays and egg demo at Gate Farm
We were delighted to be holding a display of vintage tractors at Gate Farm. They also held egg production demonstrations during the weekend to see how egg farming and quality checks/grading is carried out.

Stalls and sales
Many of our gardens hosted sales such as plant stalls, jams and local honey, cake stall, ice-creams and local arts and crafts.

Military vehicle display
A display from the Restore and Display Military Group was also on show. The RDMG go to military shows and rallies and on trips to Europe, USA, and Australia. The vehicles range from a military bicycle, motor bikes, Jeeps, Austin Champs, Land Rovers through to larger trucks GMC, Diamond T, Ward la France which is a tank recovery vehicle, a bulldozer and even an army low loader.
